Our Little House on The Prairie: July 11 - 16

The house got off to a slow start after temps near 100 at the beginning of the week. The roofing company got behind at other jobs due to the extreme heat - but eventually things got rolling and we ended the week with half a shingled roof, stairs, archways, fireplace rough-in, garage floor and a bathtub for Austin and JP! Jay and I made huge progress in the decisions department. We picked out cabinets, counter top, lights, interior doors, carpet, hardwood and trim. Tile and brick are the big things still left undecided. We thought we had finally narrowed down our brick choice...but of course it's back-ordered. Back to the drawing board!

3rd Birthday: Under Construction {The Details}

As you all know, I LOVE planning Austin's birthday parties. We were flying high his first birthday, last year we were down on the farm and this year....we were under construction! It felt like a good theme considering our new house is currently under construction. We decided to have the party at the Ruma hall because a) no house and b) our garage is packed with almost everything we own. Having it at the hall worked out perfectly and I can definitely see us having it there again in the future. There was plenty of room and we didn't have to worry about the heat. On to the details....

We set the scene with "dump everything" invites found on Etsy

The tables decorated with flowers, orange placements, caution tape, construction cones, our house plans and hard hats.

The dessert table during construction...

We added "dirt cupcakes" and "cake ball boulders"

The food! Fried chicken, chicken strips, potato salad, slaw, pasta salad, beans, broccoli casserole, veggie tray, chips and bread.

Drinks!

The drinks, food, gifts and cake all had construction signs like the one seen here.

Clock in zone! Time to get to work! Vests, hard hats, house plans, colors, stickers, bubbles and construction cones for the kiddos!

Birthday book for family and friends to sign

Balloons

Uncle CC's Hard Hat

Being orange, "Schwimmy" fit right into the decor!

"Kids a Play" area during construction - House plans to decorate, construction puzzle, lace-up construction vehicles, blocks of wood, rocks and trucks and a bulldozer tent!

We had a lot of fun putting this party together. I was happy with the way everything eventually came together.
